Captains Call: Round 18

The last big bye round is upon us so for those of you who need a win it’s a chance to get one back this week, but for some of you, you will be praying for a miracle.

Let’s review last weeks’ players and my word, how bad was that. No player really stood out with a couple getting zero. CEO favourite Angus Crichton didn’t fare much better managing a single line break. He was four off a work horse which was always going to be hard with a score line like that and the fact he was given an early shower, coming off with nine minutes to go didn’t help his cause.

Andrew Fifita got his workhorse, just. He was on 38 once the game had finished but after adjustments he got those two extra involvements. Again in such a high scoring game there were only four work horse tries compared to the first game of the round in a tight affair there were 11 work horse tries.

Nathan Ross, he had a shocker which reflected on his score, a big zero. Looked good in an attacking capacity last week but this week was a very different story.

I did say James Tedesco’s biggest risk was if he even played and as we saw he didn’t which for Knights was probably a good thing.

Clint Gutherson didn’t set the world of fire like he has in previous weeks but did still manage a try assist and line break assist. Very quiet game by his standards.

Let’s move on to this week. As you know it’s very important to nail your choice of captain, not just this bye week but every week. Sometimes it’s also good to get other people’s perspectives on who they this might be a good choice, so in collaboration with the Moneyball crew we bring you this week’s players to preview.

Don’t forget to vote or leave a comment below.

Angus Crichton (safe bet)

I know we previewed Crichton last week but as requested by the boys we will do him again. This week against the Roosters will provide a tougher challenge for the Rabbitohs. Crichton’s involvements should be a lot higher as I can’t see the score line being the same as Rabbits last game. Add in the fact Crichton has the ability to pick up some good attacking stats too, he should be a good choice this week.

Nathan Brown (safe bet)

Nathan Brown was chosen by the boys and has been massive this year but his best performance was last week where he scored his first double workhorse playing all 82 minutes at lock. He has been averaging some big minutes of late and I can’t see that going down anytime soon. Playing the Storm expect much of the same up the middle and Brown to reap the benefits.

Mitchell Barnett (risk and reward)

Barnett hasn’t been super consistent this season as many CEO’s thought, however the lads have faith in him this week to score some points. I can see the Knights V Bulldogs game being quite a dower affair with the Dogs unable to score many points but have defended pretty well and if Knights play Hodkinson again then I can’t see them scoring any. This makes for a grind of a match which will suit Barnetts involvements. The unfortunate thing for Barnett owners is he just isn’t getting the minutes we thought he would only averaging about 55. Barnett is yet to cross the line this season, this could be the game.

Daly Cherry-Evans (risk and reward)

DCE should probably be playing for Queensland in just over a weeks’ time but again has been over looked.  The Moneyball lads think he will be out to prove a point and against a Panthers side who were thrashed by Souths and I’m probably in agreeance with them. Evans has been in stellar form this season with 18 try assists. Expect a few more this week.

Matt Moylan (risk and reward)

Moylan will be looking for a huge game after his disastrous pass last week which turned the tide against the Panthers. Has the ability to find a hole and also put someone through one. With only the possibility of Merrin playing Origin, their team should remain pretty much the same and with Jake Trbojevic out the middle of the field is just a little more vulnerable.

Who are you picking as captain for Round 18?
