Captains Call: Round 19

Hi all, welcome to the last bye round of the season… FINALLY!

My heart bleeds for the Knights who were 30 seconds away from beating the Bulldogs. They tried so hard and were probably the better team on the day. Trent Hodkinson had his best game of the season by far so I’m happy to take what I said back about him last week.

Another Knight who tried hard was Mitch Barnett. He managed a workhorse with 40 involvements. Still hasn’t crossed the line but it will come.

Daly Cherry-Evans didn’t do as much as everyone expected, only managing a try assist and line break assist. You can say they the 14-2 penalty count didn’t help the situation but they still had almost 50% of possession.

In the same game and probably the biggest disappointment was Matt Moylan getting a big fat zero. He tried but just ran out of ideas trying to get through Manly’s tough defence.

Angus Crichton wasn’t going to be held two weeks in a row coming back to score a workhorse, try assist and line break assist. Good return if you named him as captain.

Best of the week goes to Nathan Brown.

The lock put in another 80 minute performance up the middle and racked up 65 involvements for his second double workhorse in as many weeks. Brown looks like he could be a real keeper if you are in a keeper league.

Thanks to the Moneyball Podcast crew of picking four of them last week, the four that actually scored points.

Looking forward to this week I will review five more and hopefully one of those can get you a win.

Please don’t forget to vote or leave a comment below.

Simon Mannering (safe bet)

The most consistent player for the Warriors Mannering doesn’t look like slowing down. Has only missed one workhorse this year and has five doubles to his name. The only thing missing from Mannerings repertoire is attacking stats, although if he’s getting doubles then who would complain.

Elliott Whitehead (safe bet)

Whitehead has been the most consistent point scorer for the Raiders this year. Since round six he has scored at least four points every game. With a do or die clash up against the Dragons, expect Whitehead to step up.

Tom Trbojevic (risk and reward)

There’s a reason Tom Trbojevic is the leading fullback this year. Even with injury he still tops the list which is a pretty good effort. His last three weeks have yielded three tries, two try assists and two line breaks. Against the Tigers and off the back of their disappointing game against the Panthers, expect them to come out firing.

Dylan Walker (risk and reward)

Just like Turbo, expect Dylan Walker to come out firing against the Tigers. In his past six games he’s scored six tries, three try assists, four line breaks and three line break assists. He is the form centre of the comp and probably should be playing Origin so look out Knights, he could be in for a big one.

Nick Cotric (risk and reward)

The young winger has been a rare shining light for the Raiders this year. Cotric is a serious contender for rookie of the year and his form over the last three games warrants that with four tries and three line breaks. After the week off and in a must win game, Cotric will be set for a huge one.

Who are you picking as captain for Round 19?
