Captains Call: Round 2

Welcome to Captains Call for another week.

I hope everyone chose their captain well last week and didn’t pick Cameron Smith. Not often I will say this but what a disappointment he was last week. Second favourite in our poll and didn’t manage a single point, not including goals. All the backs managed to score some points with Johnson being the pick of them with seven and subsequently being the best scorer out of the nine selected. If you somehow picked Bryson Goodwin or Joel Thompson as captain then very good call, 15 points each. I highly doubt anyone would have done that in Round 1 though!

This week we have five new captaincy options. Let me know who you will be picking in the poll below.

Jack De Belin  (safe bet)

De Belin only missed three workhorse tries last year but picked up three doubles on the way. Comfortably picked up another one on the weekend plus he managed to cross the line for a try.

Mitchell Barnett  (safe bet)

Since playing for Newcastle, Barnett has not missed a workhorse try. He has also managed to pick up the odd try, try assist or line break along the way. On the weekend he scored the first double workhorse of his career and had a try assist.

Trent Merrin (risk and reward)

Both games against West Tigers last year Merrin managed to cross the line for a try, picked up a workhorse try in one and missing by two involvements in the other. He and many NRLCEO players would have been very disappointed by his output last game and I’m sure he will be out to rectify that against the Tigers this week. He’ll get more than 44 minutes this week!

Jordan Rapana (risk and reward)

Scored 20 tries up until round 26 last year. In six of those games he scored multiple tries. Rapana also crossed the line in all three games the Raiders played the Sharks. He didn’t manage to cross the line last game so expect him to do so this weekend.

Latrell Mitchell (risk and reward)

Picked up a hat trick on the weekend in the Roosters first game of the year. Managed to score three tries in two games against the Bulldogs last year. Has started the year on fire and could very well be in for a massive year.
