Captains Call: Round 3

Welcome to another edition of Captains Call.

Last week I had faith in Barnett scoring an easy workhorse try off the back of his first double, how wrong was I!?!? A match in which there were 60 points scored meant there were only three workhorse tries for the match. One thing to take note when choosing a captain is whether or not you think it will be a high scoring game. Picking a safe bet to try and get you a workhorse may not be the best option if you think the game will be high scoring. More points mean more stoppages which mean less time for your forwards to make the tackles or runs needed.

The pick of the 10 selected was Corey Norman, three try assists, one line break and two line break assists, a very good haul.

Check out the players in this weeks review.

Aiden Tolman (safe bet)

A main stay in the Bulldogs pack, Tolman is one of the most reliable workhorse options going around. Having made 29 workhorse tries last year, Tolman is two from two this year. One of the very few forwards that regardless of the score line will still get the involvements for a workhorse.

Josh McGuire (safe bet)

McGuire has always been a good option, however his move to lock and his increasing motor means more minutes and more involvements. He showed that on the weekend with 62 involvements. A single and a double workhorse in his first two games of the year is a very good start and I think McGuire will be right up there at seasons end.

Michael Morgan (risk and reward)

Morgan had a good game on Friday night with a try, try assist, line break and line break assist. He had those same stats when Cowboys played Sea Eagles in their only meeting last season. The Rabbits ran riot over the Sea Eagles last week, I expect Cowboys to do the same led by Morgan.

Leipana (risk and reward)

Yes I know its two players and I know I reviewed Rapana last week but how could I possible go past them this week? Raiders are playing Tigers. Last year in the two games these sides played each other it yielded plenty of points for these two players. Rapana went six tries and seven line breaks while Leilua went three tries and three try assist. Top that with the way the Raiders played last week and im confident these two will come out all guns blazing this Sunday.

Cody Walker (risk and reward)

Walker has started the season very well, he has a try, four try assists, four line breaks and three line break assists. He went a try, three try assists and three line break assists in the two games they played the Knights last year. I expect him to do that same this time around.

Who are you picking as captain for Round 3?
