Round 24 Dream Team

Looking at the best performances each week to determine the Team of the Week and using the player’s season totals to determine the overall Dream Team for 2016 on a week by week basis.

Round 24 Team of the Week:

NRLCEO Team of the Week Round 24 2016

After getting Corey Oates back on track last week, this week our overall leading try scorer Suliasi Vunivalu (20) is back! He had gone four weeks without a try so it was only fitting that he come out and score four tries to bring his try scoring ratio back over one per game. His 170 metres also got him his third metre eater for the year.

Not to be outdone, Raiders winger Brenko Lee (19) also scored four tries and now finds himself dropped from first grade! What are the chances of that ever happening before? Let me know if you can think of anyone else.

How good were Jarrod Croker’s flick passes on the weekend too? It was like Matt Gidley was back only this time it was Croker to Lee. His 16 points were scored through a try, three try assists, two line breaks and two line break assists. If only he kicked more than 2 from 6 then I would have been celebrating a semi final.

One of the menu vying for NRLCEO MVP of 2016 showed exactly why. Ryan James (16) scored two tries, two line breaks, a workhorse and a metre eater for a huge return and the highest scoring forward of the round. It takes his season total to 157 with ten tries. He only needs two more tries to become the most prolific try scoring forward in a season. He’s just one behind the 11 set by former St George prop Jack Holland in 1950 and which was equalled by former South Sydney front-rower Harry Eden in 1975.

Overall Dream Team:

NRLCEO Dream Team Round 24 2016

Each week we will accumulate the points for each player to come up with the Overall Dream Team for 2016.

James Graham (164) is still in the lead but his lead is now down to seven points as Ryan James (157) chases him down! It looks certain that the NRLCEO MVP will be a forward again this year.

The NRLCEO MVP honour roll currently looks like this:

2015: Semi Radradra (138)

2014: Johnathan Thurston (133)

2013: Cameron Smith/Corey Parker (142)

2012: Benji Marshall (143)

Keep in mind scoring has changed each year and this is the first year we’ve included metre eater points.

There is one new face in the team this week with Cooper Cronk (119) forcing his way in. He’s close to having his best season of try assists from previous seasons (22 in 2016, 15 in 2015, 23 in 2014 and 21 in 2013) but it’s his try scoring (11 in 2016, 4 in 2015, 5 in 2015 and 4 in 2014) that has set him on his best season of all time.

There are so many new members in the NRLCEO Century Club this week it’s getting to be a full time job following. Congratulations to Bryce Cartwright (107), Joey Leilua (106), Blake Ferguson (105), Cameron Munster (105), Dale Finucane (105),  Michael Lichaa (105) Suliasi Vunivalu (103) and Josh McGuire (101) for breaking the magical barrier.

The following players are still in the 90’s;  Kevin Proctor (98), Moses Mbye (98),  Jason Taumalolo (97), Jesse Bromwich (96), Ben Hunt (96), Semi Radradra (95), Cody Walker (94), Wade Graham (94), David Nofoaluma (92), Bodene Thompson (91), Kevin Naiqama (91) and Tyrone Peachey (90).

Only two more rounds for these players to reach the magical mark now.
