Round 6 Dream Team

Round 6 Team of the Week

For the first time in 2017 the Team of the Week is completely different to the prior week. What I mean by that is that no player from the Round 5 Team of the Week made this week’s team. Double ups happen more than you would think.

Can you believe I didn’t captain Jordan Rapana this week? I opted for Croker instead and I won’t make that mistake again. I’ll be leaving the (c) on Rapana for the whole season at this rate. Believe it or not his 21 points wasn’t even his best ever performance. He scored 27 points in Round 8 last year. Nevertheless his three tries, try assist, three line breaks and 251 metre Double Metre Eater was a superb result on the weekend.

Simon Mannering has to be the most understated (note I didn’t say underrated) player in the NRL. He just gets the job done in a unflashy but super effective scoring rate on NRLCEO. With over 260 appearances since 2005, 58 tries and only four missed workhorses since the start of 2015, he just gets the job done. This 15 point try, line break, double workhorse and metre eater combo typified the previous statement.

Bulldogs centre Brenko Lee is finding his feet nicely in the blue and white.

Here is the rest of the Team of the Week:

  1. Marcelo Montoya (10)
  2. Jorge Taufua (12)
  3. Brenko Lee (13)
  4. Joseph Leilua (12)
  5. Jordan Rapana (21)
  6. Cody Walker (11)
  7. Josh McCrone (11)
  8. Nathan Brown (9)
  9. Andrew McCullough (12)
  10. Paul Vaughan (8)
  11. Sam Burgess (12)
  12. Simon Mannering (15)
  13. Jason Taumalolo (13)

Points based on: Tries (4), Workhorses (4), Double Workhorses (8), Metre Eaters (2), Double Metre Eaters (4), Try Assists (2), Line Breaks (1), Line Break Assists (1), 40/20s (1), Field Goals (1), Sin Bins (-2) and Send Offs (-4).

Overall Dream Team

There are six new players in the overall Dream Team this week.

Six games. Seven tries. Five try assists. Seven Metre Eaters. What a start to the season for Jordan Rapana! 61 points in six games even eclipses Milford’s (51) dominant start last year and equals Tedesco’s (61) season starting record last year. Tedesco finished with 123 points. Something tells me Rapana is going to eclipse that and nudge the 150 mark this year. I don’t think anyone would bet against me.

Step back 15 points to late bloomer Cody Walker. He has the most try assists (8) in the NRL so far. Everyone who drafted Walker is cheering as he blitzes defences with his dazzling footwork each week. He’s well on his way to another 100 point plus season if he keeps this up which would be extraordinary for any rookie – let alone a late bloomer.

There are two new centres in the Dream Team. Both have made it due to their hard running which shows it’s not that hard to be a centre! Euan Aitken isn’t big but he with four tries so far and 24 tackles breaks (15th best in the NRL) he’s using that frame to good effect. We don’t need to say much more for Joey Leilua. He hasn’t dominated one stats column so far but that has been part of his consistency.

Lastly I want to make mention of Jason Taumalolo. Often a maligned NRLCEO selection, he has 16 points from Metre Eaters but that doesn’t make up half of his points so far. The main improvement has been his workhorse ratio. With four workhorses from four appearances (100%) much higher than nine from 24 games (37.5%) in 2016.

Here is the Dream Team at the conclusion of Round 6 (with total points in brackets):

  1. Tom Trbojevic (40)
  2. Suliasi Vunivalu (31)
  3. Euan Aitken (31) – NEW
