Round 7 Dream Teams

Round 7 Team of the Week

James Roberts finally did what he has promised to do for the last two years – blitzed the points! It was his second highest NRLCEO score ever and his first hat-trick since Round 6 2015 when he was still at the Titans and the third of his multiple club career.

There were four other players with the equal second highest score of the week and each of them deserve a wrap

The first is Suliasi Vunivalu. We never thought we’d see another guy with a try scoring record as good as Israel Folau in purple but unbelievably he’s even flogging him! In just his 27th first grade game this was the tenth time he’s scored two tries or more! He has a total of 29 tries in 27 games and at this stage of his career Folau had 21 tries in 27 games. Good company.

Next up is Raiders bulldozing centre Joey Leilua. Lask week he was filmed at the Yowani Golf Club in Canberra belting golf balls with his partner in crime Jordan Rapana. Last Saturday he was belting Solomona Kata and Ken Maumalo who were busy worrying about Rapana. It seems this year is Jordy doesn’t get you then BJ will! One of the other have scored in the last 13 Raiders games stretching back to Round 24 last year.

The English have a proud history with St George who was their patron saint so it stands to reason that they’d have an Englishman leading from the front on the footy field too. Gareth Widdop’s 12 points came from a try, two try assists, line break and three line break assists along with four goals meant you probably got the win if he was in your squad. Hilariously he probably went undrafted in a majority of competitions and now he’s the Dream Team five-eighth.

Last but certainly not least, Felise Kaufusi is the surprise packer forward of the whole competition based on NRLCEO points. He had been a model of considtency up until this round with six workhorses from his first six attempts. He made it seven from seven and the icing, cream and sprinkles on top was his second ever two try performance. He is now the seventh top back rower in the competition.

Here is the rest of the Team of the Week:

  1. Billy Slater (10)
  2. Suliasi Vunivalu (12)

Overall Dream Team

Despite scoring only two points through a double metre eater this week, Jordan Rapana is still the overall MVP with 63 points from seven games.

There are three new players in the overall Dream Team this week.

The first new entry is the Player of the Week – James Roberts. With 40 points most likely getting you an entry into the Dream Team scoring half of that in just one week is sure to bump you to the top. With seven tries, six Metre Eaters, four line breaks, two try assists and a line break assist to his name he is one point shy of a half century and averaging seven points per game. That’s huge for a centre.

The next extrant has already been praised in the Team of the Week. Gareth Widdop has been instrumental in the Dragons early season form and with 52 points already to his name he will well and truly smash his highest ever NRLCEO score of 81 back in 2015. With 30 goals already he will also likely smash his season record of 70 goals from 2015 unless the Dragons return to their old ways.

Dragons team mate Jack De Belin is not as surprising an entry into the Dream Team. A stable workhorse since his debut in 2011, he has 62 workhorses from 113 first grade appearances. A ratio which has improved to 28 Workhorse from 31 games since the start of 2016.
