Trade Talk: Keep or Sweep?

Trade

This week in Keep or Sweep, before giving my tips on who to get and who to shed I think it’s time to check on my record.  Starting with the first edition post Round 3.

Michael Morgan 5 2 1.75 Yep! Morgan has been as bad as predicted, but has started to look better in the Cowboys attack despite not scoring.  He may be a cheap pickup in some leagues and is an intriguing backup with his FB/5-8 dual positions.
Ben Hannant 2 2.67 0 Yep! BOOM.  And to think I copped it for rating Douglas as better after round 2.
I’m a long time fan of the Polar Bear and he will be a star during origin when Scott/Tamou head for origin, but he isn’t someone I want in my squad.
Wade Graham 4 1.33 3 NO! Graham has moved into more of a traditional back-row role with the emergence of Jack Bird.  He looks a valuable NRLCEO player and I was wrong on this one.
Will Hopoate 2 1.67 1.25 Yep! If the rumours of $850k per season are true, Will Hopoate has to be the most overpaid player in the competition.  Without Hayne to run off, he is both an NRL and NRLCEO dud.

Sam Perrett 1 5.67 1.25 ??? The minute B-Moz went down I advised to ditch Perrett.  Once Morris returns I expect Perrett’s value to sky rocket.  I decided not to carry him during the injury but will be prepared to get him back once Morris closes in on a return date.In deeper leagues, I’d suggest holding Perrett if you can.
Jack De Belin 1 4 4 Yep! De Belin is a dual listed FR/BR who hasn’t missed a workhorse yet.  He is the stuff fantasy dreams are made of.
Sauaso Sue 0 3 1 Nope Sue I recommended as only a steal on the cheap type and that is all he turned out to be.His minutes and value have plummeted and I’m prepared to admit I was wrong here.  I have bailed on him and you should too.
Glenn Stewart 2 2.67 2.5 Yep! Stewart’s numbers look underwhelming, but since I recommended trying to trade for him the only times he missed a workhorse were when he was forced to play as a makeshift 5/8.  Even then he managed a point each week.Stewart is a starting quality backrower I’d be happy to have.  By now everyone has probably realised this too however and he may not be so easily attained.
Kade Snowden 2 4 4 Yep! Snowden is yet to miss a workhorse this year.  He has been great for NRLCEO coaches, but his metres have dropped in the past two games.  Watch with interest – if he doesn’t regain form Rick Stone may decide to reduce his minutes.

Now on to this week…

Players to Sweep

Matt Ballin

Matt Ballin

I’ve finally got my wish with Jayden Hodges being named on the Manly bench.  Ballin is a tackling machine but offers nothing in attack and Toovey has finally woken up and brought Hodges onto the bench for some minutes around half time.  This means fewer minutes of tackling for Ballin and he may not be the dependable four points he has been for years.  Trade him before others wake up to this.

Luke Lewis2

Luke Lewis

Lewis has scored 23 points in the last three weeks.  So why trade him?  The same reason you should trade Rona: Lewis’ value is at its peak and you may as well try and leverage this for some longer term talent.  Once Gallen and Fifita return the WHs will dry up for Lewis, and I don’t see him as as-much of a try-scoring threat as his three tries in three weeks might lead others to believe.

Anthony Watmough Eels

Anthony Watmough

Watmough is averaging 3 points per week at the moment, but only has four workhorses from his seven starts.  Choc is spending more time on the bench in 2015 and seems to be playing through niggling injuries.  I’d rather trade on the Choc name and get someone like Frizell, de Belin or even a package around Jarrad Kennedy in return.

Players to Keep

Dane Gagai

Dane Gagai

The Knights’ attack only looks dangerous down the right edge and Uate is likely unattainable.  I’d be happy to have Gagai in my squad though.  He is averaging four points per game through a combination of his own tries and setting up Aku down the wing, and I see no reason this should change.

Tom Burgess

Tom Burgess

Turgess has three straight workhorses and looks like he wants to get involved in every play whilst he is on the field.   He isn’t a lock to hit a WH each week, but he is worthy of a second or third prop spot in a lot of rotations.

Dylan Napa

Dylan Napa

Napa has hit a workhorse in five of his last six games.  With JWH out for at least a month, this is a trend that is certain to continue.  Get him if you can.
