2022 Legends of League

The Legends of League Competition is our oldest public league and it is now in its twelfth year.

What is the Legends of League?

It’s the ultimate competition to pit yourself against the best of the best outside of your private leagues.

Our Legends of League tournament is Australia’s biggest promotion and relegation fantasy draft tournament. The top tier is made up of ten teams – the top four from the 2021 Champions League and the six winners of the Legends of League Division 1 competitions.

Rule Changes for 2022

Like PVL changing the face of rugby league as we know it, we have had to adapt our rules to work with the mad man and also the crazy world of COVID that has wreaked havoc through world sport.

So here is a snapshot of the changes with more detail below:

  1. Workhorses increased to five points
  2. Kicker points increased to 12 points
  3. Waiver wire implemented
  4. Squad cuts increased from 25 to 35
  5. Grand Finals moved to Round 24

1. Workhorses increased to five points

The backs have dominated PVL ball and they dominated NRLCEO these last few years. The olden days of hookers and front rowers dominating the early stages of a draft have gone too. So we’re not going crazy or changing the requirements of a workhorse. We’re just adding a bonus point for each level of the workhorse. So that’s five points for a single, 10 for a double and 15 for a triple. The same value as a try and try assist and we sure as shit know they work harder for a workhorse than a catch and put down wingers try.

2. Kicker points increased to 12 points

We always aim to have the kicker points so that you can handcuff the two best kickers at each club in under 10 points but in 10 team competitions such as the Legends of League there is too much talent left in the spud pool. So we’ve increased the limit to 12 points for all Legends of League Competitions.

3. Waiver wire implemented

We’ve had the waiver wire option on the site for a number of years, but haven’t implemented it for Legends of League. Now we feel like it’s the time to even out the comps and bring it in.

For those who haven’t used the waiver before, from lockout in the first game until 9pm the Tuesday night after Team List Tuesday, players are locked and you need to bid for them. Either with a blank position in your squad or with another player in your squad.

The team which is lower on the ladder gets preference if two teams are bidding for the same player.

4. Squad cuts increased from 25 to 35

This is an easy decision to make. With the wild year expected with COVID interruptions and players dropping like flies, we need to increase the squad size to make sure that you don’t have to cut your guns if they miss a few weeks.

5. Grand Finals moved to Round 24

We’ve toyed with this one for a number of years now and unfortunately players are always going to be rested in the lead up to finals, but we’ve decided that there is less impact if we have grand finals in the second last round rather than the last round. I’m sure there will still be some instances of players rested in Round 24, but hopefully we get this one right.

Good luck to everyone in their drafts and remember, if you want to win, you gotta get the Bible!
