Captains Call: Round 23

Welcome to week 23 of the NRL season.

This week coincides with many competitions one week into finals or just starting this week.

The competition is getting fierce in both NRL and NRLCEO land with upsets causing issues for some teams.

Souths, once touted as a premiership contender, now sit outside the top four with a couple of tricky away games ahead before they finish the season against the Roosters.

The Roosters are really starting to flex their muscle coming into the finals and once again will be a threat to take out the competition.

Picking your captain this week could move you one step closer to the final or could kick you to the kerb and end your season so make sure you pick wisely.

Here’s five for the week who I think will score well.

James Tedesco

Tedesco is in some amazing form at the moment. He has amassed 43 points in the last five games. With the Roosters running hot and up against the 14th placed Dragons, he could be in for another big one.

The Storm come up against the last placed Titans in what should be a drubbing. After losing last week, the Storm will be out to get their preparation back on track for finals. This could be a case of throwing in the white towel if I were the Titans.

Payne Haas

If the Broncos are to win, it’ll be on the back of Haas. His solo try last week was a thing of beauty and I don’t think anyone will need to tell him how big of a game this one is. He plays some big minutes so that always helps.

John Bateman

Since Bateman has been back from injury, he hasn’t skipped a beat scoring at least four points in every game. He knows just how big this game is for the Raiders, a win would almost certainly guarantee a top four spot. Big players rise for big occasions.

James Fisher-Harris

While he doesn’t have the attacking stats other forwards might have, has definitely has the consistency. 22 workhorses in 21 games is a great strike rate and puts him fourth on the list for most workhorses this season. Generally, plays big minutes which helps his output.
