Comparing the top fantasy scorers

CEO vs SuperCoach vs NRL Fantasy

There are a number of extremely popular fantasy platforms for NRL in Australia. NRL SuperCoach and NRL Fantasy are the market leaders with hundreds of thousands of users, but there are a number of independent platforms out there too including our own NRLCEO on TheBench.com.au.

Each platform has their own pros and cons but no two platforms are the same when it comes to scoring systems.

NRLCEO has traditionally been (and will continue to be) very simple in it’s scoring concept whereas the major platforms have scoring options for a lot more real life actions. All of this leads us to the analysis of which players are the best across each game.

Starting at the top of the NRLCEO rankings, Semi Radradra was the king pin last year after his dominating try scoring feats, but compare him to NRL Fantasy where he finished 72nd and NRL SuperCoach (13th). This goes to show the power of try scoring in NRLCEO compared to the consistency in scoring needed in NRL Fantasy where his average score was 28th highest but he was let down by playing the third least amount of games in the top 100.

The next dominant player in NRLCEO was also a try scoring hero. Curtis Rona went undrafted in most leagues and was quickly snapped up in the lead-up to Round 1 when he was named on the wing for the Dogs. It shows the value of a top try scorer in an NRLCEO team, but it’s also a lottery to pick them. Note that Semi was also largely undrafted the year prior too. Incredibly he was ranked as low as 105th in NRL Fantasy though and 71st in SuperCoach. This shows that although he scored plenty of tries, he lacked in other areas. He was second highest in line breaks but as low as 63rd for metres gained.

Shaun Fensom was the first forward to appear on the NRLCEO list in equal third after a consistent year of workhorses coupled with a few double workhorses and bonus tries. His consistency in all games saw him finish as one of only four players who finished in the top ten in all three formats. He had the fouth highest tackle count of all NRL players and was 29th ranked for offloads too.

In equal third for NRLCEO points was Andrew McCullough who was also a picture of consistency. He has now become the premier NRLCEO hooker as he doesn’t play Origin and largely plays 80 minutes each week. He was also the fourth highest rank in NRL Fantasy but dropped down to 16th in SuperCoach. He had the highest tackle count in all of the NRLCEO and only seven errors for the whole year.

Tigers custodian James Tedesco had a massive year in a bitterly disappointing Tigers side. Scoring a massive 17 tries as well as 13 try assists he was the highest scoring NRLCEO fullback. He also finished 2nd in SuperCoach and 7th in NRL Fantasy. He was the fourth highest ranked player in metres gained and a handy offload count finishing 28th in the overall rankings.

See what you make of the top ten in all three formats below. Shaun Fensom, Andrew McCullough, James Tedesco and Simon Mannering were the only player who made the top ten in all three formats showing that their consistency and value which should continue again this year barring injuries.

We’ve also listed players from the top ten in NRL Fantasy and SuperCoach in their NRLCEO rankings to give you an idea of the different formats and what they value in terms of scoring.
