Half way to the future

A quiet week for Holden Cup Graduates due to so many byes. So instead of telling you who you should draft this week I would instead like to tell you about a couple of half backs to look out for in the future.

Zach Dockar-Clay is an exciting young half back in the Parramatta 20’s side. ZDC as he will be known when people realise his talent has represented NSW at 16’s and 18’s and could very well represent in the 20’s as he is only 19 years old. With out going on too much about this exciting prospect I’ll leave you with the single thing I thought when I saw his side step last year, “that’s Brad Fittler!”

Another successful half at 20’s level is Mason Lino of the Warriors. Lino isn’t an exciting player and will probably have a year or two in the NSW Cup. Lino’s strengths is his calmness and leadership. A goal kicking halfback that could lead a side around the park. Lino could compliment Johnson and free up some pressure for him as well.

Now not necessarily a half back, although he can cover plenty of positions, but to tie back to my usual type of article Nene Macdonald at the Roosters makes another appearance in the top grade. After his debut Macdonald went back to the Holden Cup and tore it up. Macdonald is a PNG international and is able to cover five eighth, wing, fullback and I’m sure could go into centre in a pinch. Sadly he probably won’t see too much NRL too quickly and his best bet is a wing spot when RTS moves into fullback on Minis retirement but I would put good money on Macdonald being ready to prove himself when that time comes.
