Mbye gets his chance!

The Origin teams have now been picked and that means we have to have a solid look at some of the former Holden Cup stars that are taking the rep star’s places.

Lets start with the player regular readers will remember I always finish with, Moses Mbye 2014’s 19th man of the year. Mbye is a quality five eighth, but I’m not sure how he will go with the added responsibilities of being the dominant half at halfback in his second game. He could lead a side around well, and deliver great cut out balls for try assists, but should the Bulldogs get some good roll on I think Mbye can show why he has been hanging around for a chance. If you would like to read more reviews with Moses Mbye click here.

Alex Johnston looks a natural at the Rabbit.  A few weeks ago I called him a gamble, and I couldn’t have been further from the truth.  The only thing you need from wingers in NRLCEO is tries – and he has delivered five in just three games!  He is no doubt snapped up in your League by now, so if you have him already, ride him home.  Up against the Sharks this week I certainly wouldn’t bet against another double.

For the Roosters, Samisoni Langi gets his first run of 2014.  Like I’ve said previously, Langi is built for the NRL and is quite talented. He led the Roosters to the semis last year in the Holden Cup.  He could get you a try or two over Origin, but don’t expect him to be a long term prospect this season.

He’s 21 now, but after a couple of years in the Under 20’s (47 games 2010-2012) and then a year’s apprenticeship with the big boys Paul Carter is starting to show that he can hold his own at the top grade as well.  Known as a mini-Greg Bird he should bring the fire to the Titans in the absence on his idol and after scoring his first workhorse last week with 42 involvements he is well worth a pick-up if he’s still hanging around the Free Agents.

Lastly I wanted to mention Kurtis Rowe. I wrote him off on his debut game and I was proven some what correct in my opinion. I stayed he was the type of player that needed a year in reserve grade. Well thrown into the deep end he is starting to come good. Each game Rowe is looking more and more like a first grader. At the moment he doesn’t look to be at a Tedesco level, but who knows when his next injury or club is around the corner. Lets keep an eye in the fullback situation at the Tigers.
