NRL Physio Injury Updates: Round 7

Our resident rugby league injury expert, the NRL Physio has written a wrap-up of the injuries and recoveries after Round 7.

Firstly, a quick preview on The Fan:

Nathan Brown

The Eels lock is still out for with an ankle injury, despite being listed as a Round 8 return for past two weeks. He was still in a moon boot at the game on Sunday. The Eels injury report says it’s possible that he will return next week but if he is to do so then he would want to be out of the moon boot in the next few days.

Suliasi Vunivalu

The Fijian flyer has been ruled out of the Anzac Day clash for the Storm with a low grade hamstring injury. With the long turnaround Storm are hoping he will be fit to return in Round 9.

Shaun Johnson

SJ missed last week’s game for the Warriors with an ongoing groin injury. He has been ruled out of the ANZAC Day clash with the Storm and will be reassessed for next week.

Cameron Murray

There has been confirmation Murray will return this week for the Rabbitohs. He missed the past two weeks with a minor hamstring strain. It will be one to watch as this is his second hamstring injury this season.

Mitch Pearce

Confirmation Mitchell Pearce suffered a pec rupture last weekend, with the Knights stating he could be out for up to 16 weeks. I wouldn’t think he will be out that long with the usual recovery for pec rupture with surgery being10-14 weeks. NRL examples over time below:

Nathan Cleary

Cleary Junior started running on the anti-gravity treadmill last week and hopes to resume field running later this week. He is still aiming for a 7-8 week return to play from his grade 3 MCL injury which would see him return around Round 10-11.

Tohu Harris

Tohu has failed concussion protocol and won’t be available for the Warriors in their ANZAC clash with his former club.

Jarryd Hayne

The Hayne Plane is expected to miss four weeks with a hip flexor strain suffered in his return game from a similar hip flexor injury. Word from the club is this injury is to a different hip flexor muscle than last time.

Connor Watson

The Knights recruit will make his return this week after dislocating his shoulder in Round 3. He was able to avoid surgery and it will be a five week return to play after undergoing extensive rehab.

Luke Lewis

The Sharks veteran is expected to miss around four weeks with a calf strain. It is likely a grade 2 strain with that recovery time frame. Recovery is usually one to six weeks depending on the severity of it and age does come into it slightly in terms of recovery times.
