Round 1 Team Lists – Fantasy Winners and Losers

150 days removed from the 2013 Grand Final, the day has finally come. The most exciting day on a Fantasy coaches calendar upon the arrival of a new NRL season. Team list day.

Team lists for Round 1 are in and so are all of the headaches and head scratches that come with the 16 team announcements.

We will break down all of the winners and losers as a result of team lists named on Tuesday.

Rabbitohs

1 Greg Inglis
2 Nathan Merritt
3 Beau Champion
4 Bryson Goodwin
5 Lote Tuqiri
6 Dylan Walker
7 Adam Reynolds
8 George Burgess
9 Issac Luke
10 Sam Burgess
11 Chris McQueen
12 Ben Te’o
13 John Sutton (c)

Interchange
14 Ben Lowe
15 Joe Picker
16 David Tyrrell
17 Luke Burgess
18 Joel Reddy
19 Kyle Turner

Winners:
Adam Reynolds:
With the unfortunate injury to Luke Keary at the Auckland Nines and Coach Mag’s persistency to select John Sutton as his lock, Adam Reynolds could well be set for some more responsibility. For CEO’s, hopefully that means more try assists and kicking duties.

Reynolds should do a lot more kicking with Sutton at Lock. Image Source: News.com.au

Joe Picker: With a place on the bench, Picker looks likely to stay put in the side with no relevant back-rowers awaiting their return. On the downside, he has frustrated CEO’s with his inconsistent workhorse efforts in the past.

Losers:
Thomas Burgess: Out for 4-8 weeks and could struggle to find a way back into the side if Tyrrell and brother Luke perform in minimum minutes from the Bunnies interchange bench.

Roosters

1 Anthony Minichiello (c)
2 Daniel Tupou
3 Michael Jennings
4 Shaun Kenny-Dowall
5 Roger Tuivasa-Sheck
6 James Maloney
7 Mitchell Pearce
8 Jared Waerea-Hargreaves
9 Jake Friend
10 Sam Moa
11 Boyd Cordner
12 Sonny Bill Williams
13 Frank-Paul Nuuausala

Interchange
14 Daniel Mortimer
15 Aidan Guerra
16 Mitchell Aubusson
17 Dylan Napa
18 Kane Evans
22 Kurt Kara

Potential Winners:
Dylan Napa: Beating out French International, Remi Casty could mean Napa has impressed coach Robinson.

Big Losers:

Remi Casty: One can only suspect that Casty’s immediate exclusion from the side means that Dylan Napa has seriously impressed in the Pre-Season.

Bulldogs

1 Sam Perrett
2 Mitch Brown
3 Josh Morris
4 Chase Stanley
5 Corey Thompson
6 Josh Reynolds
7 Trent Hodkinson
8 Aiden Tolman
9 Michael Ennis (c)
10 James Graham
11 Frank Pritchard (c)
12 Tony Williams
13 Dale Finucane

Interchange
14 Josh Jackson
15 Pat O’Hanlon
16 Tim Browne
17 David Klemmer
19 Moses Mbye

Winners:
Sam Perrett: Perrett has been given the fullback job by Des Hasler and this only means good things of his potential in NRLCEO. He comes off a season where he scored 17 tries in 2013, although his overall career try scoring ratio is not as glamorous.

Potential Winners:
Corey Thompson: Corey Thompson will get  1-3 games with Tim Lafai back in Round 2 and Krisnan Inu in Round 4. If he impresses his coach, the wing spot could be his.

Broncos

1 Ben Barba
2 Daniel Vidot
3 Jack Reed
4 Dale Copley
5 Lachlan Maranta
6 Josh Hoffman
7 Ben Hunt
8 Josh McGuire
9 Andrew McCullough
10 Corey Parker (c)
11 Alex Glenn
12 Sam Thaiday
13 Matt Gillett

Interchange
14 Ben Hannant
15 Martin Kennedy
16 Todd Lowrie
17 Jarrod Wallace
18 David Hala

Winners:
Dale Copley: Copley looks set for a long stay in the Broncos side. Factoring in the eventual Justin Hodges return, which should see Dane shift to one of the wing spots.

Potential Winners:
Andrew McCullough: With Jack Granville excluded from the 18 man side, McCullough could be set for a minutes increase on top of the 57.59 in which he averaged per game in 2013. However, there are whispers floating around that Macca won’t play 80, due to Todd Lowrie coming off the bench to play at dummy-half at some stage during the game.

With Granville not named McCullough could play the full 80. Image Source: The Daily Telegraph

Losers:
Ben Hannant: With Parker and McGuire named to start in the Front Row, Ben Hannant looks to be the one  to remunerate. Already, in danger of his workhorse value taking a dive with the arrival of Martin Kennedy from the Roosters, Parker’s naming at Prop can only be bad news for Hannant.

Potential Losers:
Corey Parker: ‘CP13′ played as a prop in his early days as a Bronco and Head Coach Anthony Griffin has named the Queensland State of Origin star in this position for Friday night’s clash against the Bulldogs where he may see less than 80 minutes. This, after naming Parker as the new captain and goal kicker. How many minutes Corey Parker will play on Friday night is anyone’s guess at this stage, though.

Panthers

1 Matt Moylan
2 Josh Mansour
3 Dean Whare
4 Jamal Idris
5 Dave Simmons
6 Jamie Soward
7 Peter Wallace
8 Brent Kite
9 Kevin Kingston (c)
10 Tim Grant
11 Lewis Brown
12 Elijah Taylor
13 Adam Docker

Interchange
14 James Segeyaro
15 Nigel Plum
16 Tyrone Peachey
17 Sam Mckendry
18 Jeremy Latimore

The Panthers side is spot on as to what we all would have expected. Therefore, there aren’t any winners and losers regarding this side.

Knights

1 Darius Boyd
2 James McManus
3 Dane Gagai
4 Joey Leilua
5 Akuila Uate
6 Michael Dobson
7 Tyrone Roberts
8 Kade Snowden
9 Kurt Gidley (c)
10 Willie Mason
11 Beau Scott
12 Robbie Rochow
13 Jeremy Smith

Interchange
14 Travis Waddell
15 Chris Houston
16 Alex McKinnon
17 Adam Cuthbertson
18 David Fa’alogo

Winners:
Michael Dobson: Michael Dobson presents himself as a true option as a backup half.

Losers:
Korbin Sims: Much talk surrounded Korbin in the pre-season, but his exclusion from the side altogether will end all speculation of him being an early season bolter. He’ll need a few injuries in order for him to find his way into the side.

Potential Losers:
Kurt Gidley: Travis Waddell being named on the bench, suggests that Gidley will see a rest at some stage. The other option would be that Dobson would see time on the bench, with Gidley moving to one of the major playmaking roles.

Sea Eagles

1 Brett Stewart
2 Cheyse Blair
3 Jamie Lyon (c)
4 Steve Matai
5 Peta Hiku
6 Kieran Foran
7 Daly Cherry-Evans
8 Josh Starling
9 Matt Ballin
10 Brenton Lawrence
11 Anthony Watmough
12 Justin Horo
13 Glenn Stewart

Interchange
14 Jesse Sene-Lefao
15 James Hasson
16 Jamie Buhrer
17 Dunamis Lui

Big Winners:
Brenton Lawrence: 44.57 minutes is what Lawrence averaged last season. With Jason King injured for 4-5 weeks, the former Gold Coast Titan could see himself average around 50-55 minutes at least until King returns. He will be a superstar workhorse this season and could well nail a number of double workhorses. I’ve got big wraps on him.

Josh  Starling: You only need to read the previous on Brenton Lawrence to know why Starling is a big winner and as a relatively unknown, he should be just about a certainty on your non playing reserve list if you can nab him first.

With Jason King out Starling could make you some cash. Image Source: Zero Tackle

Storm

1 Billy Slater
2 Sisa Waqa
3 Will Chambers
4 Mahe Fonua
5 Young Tonumaipea
6 Ben Hampton
7 Ben Roberts
8 Jesse Bromwich
9 Cameron Smith (c)
10 Bryan Norrie
11 Kevin Proctor
12 Ryan Hoffman
13 Ryan Hinchcliffe

Interchange
14 Kenny Bromwich
15 Tohu Harris
16 Jordan McLean
17 George Rose
18 Mitch Garbutt
19 Slade Griffin
20 Joel Romelo

Winners:
Young Tonumaipea: Young “Gun” Tonumaipea looks to be the beneficiary to Matt Duffie’s injury which occurred at the Nines. He firms as a real option as a bench back in your side or a superstar if he breaks out. Everyone is always on the lookout for the next Israel Folau.

Losers:
Mitch Garbutt: Unfortunately, Garbutt’s sensational moment where he ran just about the length of the field to score one of the more memorable tries of the Nines wasn’t enough to see him make the side.

Cowboys

1 Michael Morgan
2 Kyle Feldt
3 Brent Tate
4 Kane Linnett
5 Antonio Winterstein
6 Johnathan Thurston (c)
7 Robert Lui
8 Matt Scott (c)
9 Ray Thompson
10 James Tamou
11 Gavin Cooper
12 Jason Taumalolo
13 Joel Riethmuller

Interchange
14 Rory Kostjasyn
15 Tariq Sims
16 Glenn Hall
17 Scott Bolton
18 Ashton Sims
19 Zac Santo

Winners:
Jason Taumalolo: Arguably the most talked about minute increase player (other than Nathan Peats), Taumalolo has been named to start for the Cowboys and you simply can’t afford to exclude him from your side given his potential.

Winners:
Michael Morgan: As expected, Morgan has proceeded past the Fullback auditions. It’s now his job to lose.

Raiders

1 Anthony Milford
2 Reece Robinson
3 Jarrod Croker
4 Matt Allwood
5 Edrick Lee
6 Jack Wighton
7 Terry Campese (c)
8 Dane Tilse
9 Glen Buttriss
10 Brett White
11 Josh Papalii
12 Joel Edwards
13 Shaun Fensom

Interchange
14 Josh McCrone
15 Jarrad Kennedy
16 Paul Vaughan
17 Shannon Boyd
18 Mark Nicholls

Big Winners:
Shaun Fensom and Josh Papalii: Both Canberra back-rowers look set for huge minutes according to the quality of the bench. Ricky Stuart should find no excuses to give Fensom anything but 80 minutes, week in and week out.

Dragons

1 Adam Quinlan
2 Brett Morris
3 Dylan Farrell
4 Gerard Beale
5 Jason Nightingale
6 Gareth Widdop
7 Michael Witt
8 Jack de Belin
9 Mitch Rein
10 Dan Hunt
11 Leeson Ah Mau
12 Ben Creagh (c)
13 Trent Merrin

Interchange
14 Bronson Harrison
15 Kyle Stanley
16 Joel Thompson
17 Tyson Frizell
20 Mike Cooper

Big Winners:
Michael Witt: Four seasons out of the NRL, Witt makes his return at just 30 years of age. Michael Witt was a surprise inclusion in the Dragons side, so even if he misses out on the goal kicking duties to Gareth Widdop, he is still a great option.

Jack De Belin: De Belin is set for an obvious minutes rise on his 41.2 from a season ago and not only as a result of Michael Weyman’s departure. De Belin has had huge wraps on him for a long while now and he is set for a huge season.

Winners:
Leeson Ah Mau: A solid Charity Shield showing in a heavily beaten side sees Ah Mau rewarded with a starting spot. Whether he keeps it will be entirely up to him, however. Proceed with caution.

Big Losers:
Joel Thompson: A frustrating amount of time spent in the Centres at the Raiders is what saw Thompson make for an inconsistent workhorse option in the past. The bench has summoned the Former Raiders back-rower, which means he shouldn’t be anywhere near your side.

Potential Losers:
Mitch Rein: Steve Price has picked comeback kid Kyle Stanley on the bench and even though partnering with an interchange hooker is nothing new to Rein, fantasy coaches were at least hopeful he’d play 80 minutes this year.

Gareth Widdop: Widdop was set to see the lion’s share of dominant play maker duties whilst Sam Williams was the halfback favourite. Now, with Michael Witt named to start as Widdop’s halves partner, things may not turn out as well as originally planned for the Englishman’s fantasy prospects. However, we still see Widdop scoring well.

Tigers

1 James Tedesco
2 Marika Koroibete
3 Keith Lulia
4 Chris Lawrence
5 Pat Richards
6 Braith Anasta
7 Luke Brooks
8 Aaron Woods
9 Robbie Farah (c)
10 Martin Taupau
11 Liam Fulton
12 Bodene Thompson
13 Adam Blair

Interchange
14 Cory Paterson
15 Ava Seumanufagai
16 Sauaso Sue
17 James Gavet

Big Winners:
Aaron Woods: With the bench looking as it does, Woods could be in for some massive minutes and he’s not an Origin certainty by any means. Now in the upper echelons of NRLCEO props he would have been taken early in many drafts.

Woods looks to big set to play big minutes this season. Image Source: SMH

Keith Lulia: With Centre options not exactly coming from all corners, Lulia could turn out to be a great pick in the bench CTR position. Provided he gets enough time to make some cash, before Tim Simona’s return from injury.

Winners:
James Gavet: Could be worth a look in.

Losers:
Cory Paterson: Losing out to Bodene Thompson sees Paterson’s upside decrease.

Eels

1 Jarryd Hayne
2 Semi Radradra
3 Will Hopoate
4 Willie Tonga
5 Vai Toutai
6 Corey Norman
7 Luke Kelly
8 Tim Mannah
9 Nathan Peats
10 Fuifui Moimoi
11 Ben Smith
12 Manu Ma’u
13 Kenny Edwards

Interchange
14 Joseph Paulo
15 Peni Terepo
16 Darcy Lussick
17 Kelepi Tanginoa
18 David Gower
19 Mitch Allgood

Big Winners:
Nathan Peats: If Peats isn’t in your side, then you’ve missed out on a stuf. He looks almost certain for 80 minutes.  He will be a great workhorse option in 2014.

Manu Ma’U: As tipped by Daniel Long, Anubhav Biswas and myself 2 weeks ago after speaking directly to the Eels coach at the Eels fan day, Ma’U gets the start in the back row and shapes as a potential option in back-rows of fantasy coaches.

Winners:
Ken Edwards: Edwards grabs the starting lock position, but be very weary of picking Kenny up as Joseph Paulo will indeed share time at the lock position.

Big Losers:
Mitch Allgood: It’s anything but All good for Mitch, as he he looks to be beaten out by the early return of rising star Kelepi Tanginoa which ultimately means young gun Peni Terepo and the often hotly-headed Darcy Lussick will be used as the bench front rowers.

Warriors

1 Sam Tomkins
2 Glen Fisiiahi
3 Dane Nielsen
4 Carlos Tuimavave
5 Manu Vatuvei
6 Chad Townsend
7 Shaun Johnson
8 Sam Rapira
9 Nathan Friend
10 Ben Matulino
11 Jayson Bukuya
12 Simon Mannering (c)
13 John Palavi

Interchange
14 Jacob Lillyman
15 Suaia Matagi
16 Sione Lousi
17 Feleti Mateo
18 Jerome Ropati

Big Winners:
Carlos Tuimavave: Tuimavave will start in the #4 jersey against the Eels at Pirtek Stadium on Sunday. Just how long until Hurrell is back though is anyone’s guess.

John Palavi: Tipped as the future captain to some New Zealand Warriors fans, Palavi will wear the #13 with Ben Henry named in reserve grade. His form will determine the length in which he will stay in the side.

Pavali was  one of the biggest shocks of Team List Tuesday being named at Lock for the Warriors. Image Source: Zimbio

Big Losers:
Konrad Hurrell: There won’t be any kisses blown from Konrad Hurell this weekend, as Carlos Tuimavave looks to have won the second Centre job at least for now.

Sharks

1 Michael Gordon
2 Sosaia Feki
3 Blake Ayshford
4 Jonathan Wright
5 Beau Ryan
6 Todd Carney
7 Daniel Holdsworth
8 Andrew Fifita
9 John Morris
10 Bryce Gibbs
11 Matt Prior
12 Wade Graham
13 Paul Gallen (c)

Interchange
14 Isaac De Gois
15 Sam Tagataese
16 Tupou Sopoaga
17 Siosaia Vave
17 Tinirau Arona

Big Winners:
Daniel Holdsworth: With Jeff Robson set to miss time with a fractured cheekbone, Holdsworth gets the #7 rights until he returns. A handy backup half.

Potential Winners:
Matt Prior and Wade Graham: With Luke Lewis out of action, both Prior and Graham could be solid scorers.

Titans

1 William Zillman
2 Kevin Gordon
3 Brad Tighe
4 Maurice Blair
5 David Mead
6 Aidan Sezer
7 Albert Kelly
8 Luke Douglas
9 Beau Falloon
10 Nate Myles (c)
11 Greg Bird (c)
12 David Taylor
13 Ashley Harrison

Interchange
14 Matthew White
15 Luke Bailey
16 Mark Minichiello
17 Paul Carter
18 Ryan James
19 Brad Takairangi
20 Ben Ridge

Big Winners:
David Taylor: Davatar could well be in for a huge season after a season to forget in 2013. And to kick things off, he’s starting on Monday night.

Potential Losers:
Paul Carter: Beau Falloon is set to start in the hooking role in Round 1, which means Paul Carter will need to play exceptionally well to hold out Matt Srama upon him returning to full health.
