Weekly Previews

Brett Stewart

This season I will be doing weekly previews of each NRL matchup through NRLCEO goggles.

Will the Dragons beat the Eels by 8?  Who cares.

The real questions for any NRLCEO coach are will their forwards get enough burn to hit the all-important Workhorse and are their backs a reasonable chance of crossing the stripe.

The previews will contain everything you need to give your competition a real shake this year.  I’ll look to draw on:

  • Ins and Outs: Are there any announced or expected lineup changes this week which could affect your squad?
  • Form: who’s hot and who is not.  Hint: in 2013 Sharks wingers were not.
  • Minutes Patterns:  Is the coach favouring a new guy off the bench?  Has anyone seen minutes sag due to a form slump?  These can be essential in getting fringe guys over the combined-40 for a Workhorse.
  • Scoreline:  Are your guys going to be spending more time waiting for conversions than making tackles?  There is little worse than watching your team win by 40 and your forwards get a duck-egg.
  • Attacking patterns: are teams favouring a certain side of the field?  Could injuries affect your teams attacking style?  Last year, Jorge Taufua scored 16 tries in 16 games with Brett Stewart.  In the six games without Stewart? Two.

The previews will be short, sharp and provide you with the scientific precision to lead your team to victory.

Or I’m sure I’ll cop it.
