What you talkin bout Willis

Willis Meehan

Willis Meehan looks set to make his debut this week after last week missing out as 18th man. Meehan is an 18 year old boy in a giants body and a world class boxer as well. Pauli Pauli was previously the biggest Holden Cup Graduate, but Meehan has that title now. Meehan has proven himself more than capable against men in the NSW Cup, so don’t ignore him because you’re worried that he has only been beating up kids – he hasn’t. Meehan could be a great handcuff player with JWH if you have him.

Now to the Panthers, land of the Holden Cup graduate. The Panthers could stack up some points on the poor Dragons. Isaah Yeo, who scored a try last week, is joined by another future star Dallin Watene-Zelezniak who we have spoken about previously. If you are behind in your league and need a big week perhaps a gamble is in order and you could look at these two weapons out wide who are likely to add tries.

Or perhaps you think the Panthers forwards are likely to dominate the Dragons. If so then have a look at offload king and the Holden Cups best player Bryce Cartwright. Cartwright is big strong quick and smart, should he get on the field he might never leave the NRL side again.  He won’t get the minutes early on in his career for a workhorse, but he’s a ball player and can sniff a try.

Facing up against the Panthers however is Charly Runciman. I have big wraps on this kid, during his time in the Holden Cup he played with an NRL style. Runciman does little things well, but he doesn’t seem to have the love of the coaching stage in the ‘Gong. Hopefully he will see some game time after Origin as the Dragons would surely start to build for next season and Dugan would slot back to fullback. Runciman is too risky for me to recommend but just remember I love this kid because one day he will play regular NRL.

Jake Mamo sees game time at fullback this weekend as Newcastle head to the Roosters. Mamo could be in for a tough night but there is no mistaking the fact that this kid has a bright future. If you hear that Darius Boyd breaks a leg then trade, otherwise it is worth just enjoying any space he might find.
