Workhorse Watch Round 7

Workhorse Watch 2023!

CEO’s don’t win premierships without a hard working forward pack. Each week we will highlight the players that are must have’s in your pack, whilst also help identify the players to be on the lookout for. There were 60 players who scored a WH in Round 6, with 1 DWH this week.

WORKING HARD

Mitchell Kenny (Panthers)

52 tackles, 11 runs for 100m in 81 minutes – DWH (0.78 spm)

A surprising winner of the WH of the week for the Panthers starting hooker. Did not get a WH in his last 2 matches but played the full match and smashed out a DWH on the weekend. Soni Luke has been applying pressure to Kenny with his superior attacking skills, but Kenny still has plenty to offer in NRLCEO for 2023.

Max King (Bulldogs)

50 tackles, 15 runs for 131m in 72 minutes – WH (0.90 stats per minute)

Despite carrying an injury, King continues to carry the Bulldogs pack. If he can improve on his metres run then he will sneak a couple of DWH’s before the season is done.

Jazz Tevaga (Warriors)

49 tackles, 13 runs for 115m in 70 minutes – WH (0.89 spm)

Has got the start at Prop with Barnett still out injured and has brought his usual high work rate and aggression. Jazz has always been a consistent WH performer when he is a starter, he just lacks the attacking stats to make him an NRLCEO gun.

Jack De Belin (Dragons)

56 tackles, 5 runs for 40m in 80 minutes – WH (0.76 spm)

Those CEO’s who held onto De Belin since the start of the season will be reaping those rewards now. In his optimal position of Lock, he gets his stats up working in the middle without having to worry about being interchanged as he would when he starts at Prop.

HARDLY WORKING

Shaun Lane (Eels)

24 tackles, 13 runs for 108m in 70 minutes (0.53 spm)

Identical Stats (bar 1 metre run) from his first match back, although he played 10 less minutes, so its a good sign his work rate has increased. He should settle into his season now and look to get his running game going in combination with Dylan Brown.

Daniel Saifiti (Knights)

28 tackles, 10 runs for 103m in 58 minutes (0.66 spm)

Two weeks in a row with no WH? Saifiti has slipped from being a consistent NRLCEO starter into a bench player at best. He doesn’t seem to have the engine to become a premium CEO prop.

Jordan Riki (Sea Eagles)

29 tackles, 4 runs for 95m in 70 minutes (0.47 spm)

Four tries in his last 3 games has helped mask the fact that his work rate is terrible. For a player that plays 80 minutes most weeks he should be getting a WH on top of his attacking stats most, if not every week. Riki only has two WH’s for the season so far and cannot be relied upon to be an NRLCEO starter.

SPUD POOL LOOKOUT

Toafofoa Sipley (Sea Eagles)

24 tackles, 16 runs for 148m in 43 minutes – WH (0.93 spm)

Welcome back Mr. Sipley! Huge effort in only 43 minutes to grab a WH and be 2 metres shy of a ME. Sea Eagles pack is a bit of a mixed bag other than Jurbo so keep an eye on Sipley’s stats each week and if he can maintain his high work rate he could be a handy pick up.

Jake Granville (Cowboys)

39 tackles, 8 runs for 60m in 67 minutes – WH (0.70 spm)

With the injury to Taumalolo, Granville should see increased minutes over the next 5 to 6 weeks. He could be used as Bye cover at Hooker if his stats hold up.

Phoenix Crossland (Knights)

42 tackles, 0 runs for 0m in 68 minutes – WH (0.62 spm)

Crossland appears to have locked in the Hooker role in the absence of Jayden Brailey for now. With Ponga back its a case of ‘watch this space’ with Gamble also sitting on the bench. Crossland will get a Hooker upgrade after this week if he starts so watch his minutes this week and next to see if he has the potential to get a WH most weeks.

WORTH MENTIONING….

Moeaki Fotuaika (Titans)

32 tackles, 16 runs for 174m in 67 minutes – WH (0.72 spm)

Its about time the real MoFo stood up. Has been coming off the bench for the best part of a season and basically became CEO irrelevant. With Jolliffe out for the year and Wallace being moved on, Fotuaika has returned to his beastly best.

Davvy Moale (Rabbitohs)

25 tackles, 17 runs for 171m in 54 minutes – WH (0.78 spm)

I mentioned Moale a few weeks ago and I wanted to point him out again. If your in a keeper league, get a hold of this guy and just sit on him. He will be a starting Prop in the next few years and he has shown glimpses of what he can do. For 2023 keep an eye on the injuries at the Rabbitohs cause Moale will be good for a few more WH’s this year.

Jesse Bromwich (Dolphins)

43 tackles, 11 runs for 101m in 51 minutes – WH (1.06 spm)

Has reinvigorated his game after taking on the captaincy at the Dolphins in their first year. I will be the first to say I wrote him off as CEO relevant a few years ago but he now has 3 WH’s in 6 matches in 2023 (he had 5 WH’s in all of 2022). Credit where it is due, he is now off the undraftable list.
