Captains Call: Round 11

Welcome to week 11 of Captains Call where the the Napa curse is over 😊

I didn’t get to watch much footy over the weekend, but I did get to see the dismal Cowboys loose to the Tigers. I’m sure Thurston is still restricted by that shoulder injury and like the guys at Fox Sports have said, the Cowboys just look slow, like that haven’t recovered from last year. Will they get back to where everyone expected them to be this year? I’m thinking not.

Let’s get stuck right in and review the five from last week and even though it wasn’t a failure, it was still disappointing which kicked off with Elijah Taylor. He is usually ever reliable but only managed 29 involvements in his reduced game time. With any luck this is just a one off, but time will tell. Slater also had an off day recording only his second zero of the year. There was no best of the week as Mannering, Alvaro and Addo-Carr all registered four points.

Let’s get right into previewing five more. Don’t forget to vote or leave a comment below.

Ryan Matterson – safe bet

Matterson has been the Roosters most consistent scorer this year with eight workhorses’ and five tries. Against a Broncos team with forwards dropping like flies, Matterson could have a field day.

Sam Burgess – safe bet

With the Rabbits back to full strength, Sam led from the front last week. Expect that to continue this week against the struggling Cowboys. If the Cowboy forwards can’t match the Rabbits, this could go south very quickly for them.

Andrew McCullough – safe bet

Hasn’t skipped a beat since returning from injury. If the Broncos have any hope of beating the Roosters, then it has to come from McCullough. Has 10 workhorse tries in nine games in which one of those games he got injured.

Matt Dufty – risk and reward

After watching Valentine Holmes rack up over 300 meters against the Raiders, there’s a strong chance the whippet, Dufty could do the same. If the Dragons get the go forward as the Sharks did, Dufty could really benefit off that back of it.

Cody Walker – risk and reward

With the Cowboys looking slow, Walker is one of the best to exploit this. He is averaging six points a game and that includes a zero last week. Expect him to bounce back in a big away off the back of the Rabbits forwards.
