Captains Call: Round 11

Welcome to week 11 of Captains Call.

The hole is getting deeper! That’s what I see when I look at the Panthers.

They have the worst attack and worst defence in the competition. It’s a massive fall from grace where they finished fifth last season and were expected to go even better this year. Is Cleary the coach he’s cracked up to be? Has he lost the dressing room? Are the players putting in any effort? So many questions coming out of the foot of the mountains and after seeing the display over the last two weeks I still think the worst is yet to come. If you have any Panthers backs in your team, dump them, no points coming from there.

On the flip side, how well are the Knights and Manly going. Shifting Ponga back to fullback has been the best thing for the Knights and Queensland for that matter. Pearce has also found a rich vein of form and Klemmer is leading from the front. Manly has surprised everyone, even the most die-hard fan I’d say. Missing arguably their two best players in Tom Turbo and DCE, they are still finding a way to win games.

Let’s review the five from last week:

Murray – 4

Rein – 4

Proctor – 0

Walker – 9

Tedesco – 6

Trust me to put the kiss of death on someone. Proctor hadn’t missed a workhorse in any game he’s played this year, except for the one week I put him in Captains Call.

Murray and Rein both scored a workhorse with Rein missing a double by one, eight-meter run.

In a low scoring game, Tedesco was good scoring a try and two-line breaks.

Best of the week was Walker. The form continues for Walker where he picked up a try, try assist, line break and two-line break assists.

Let’s preview the five more, I’ll be looking at back line players for this week.

Adam Reynolds

Had a relatively quiet game against the Raiders and will be looking to bounce back this week. Last start against the Tigers, Reynolds walked away with six points and eight goals.

Cameron Munster

Another player who had a quiet game last week. Munster has the ability to turn it on when he needs to. Managed a try last time they played the dogs and after almost loosing against the Tigers, I think the Storm will come out like they did against the Eels two weeks ago.

Anthony Milford

Milford has found a bit of form over the last two weeks and he comes up against a Warriors team who aren’t the best defensively. Last time the Broncos played the Warriors, they were well beaten, I think this will be a much different game though.

Clint Gutherson

Has signed a new contract so big things are expected. Currently averaging four points a game, he has been a little quiet the past few weeks. Up against the worst team in the comp, he should be looking to fill his boots, and I expect him to do so.

Nick Cotric

This is a real out there one as Cotric hasn’t been in great point scoring form but after seeing him shift to right centre and the troubles he gave Souths when he touched the ball, all its going to take is some more ball this week and he could be in for a huge game.
