Captains Call: Round 13

Welcome to week 13 of Captains Call.

With the first bye round done and dusted, a few teams were able to scrape together a win to give themselves some hope. Penrith beat a depleted Manly and Parramatta were able to beat a depleted Souths. Two teams that should have notched up wins were Canterbury and Gold Coast as both teams they were playing were very light on. While we know the Bulldogs were always going to have a trying year with the salary cap saga hanging over them, the same cant be said for the Titans. On paper they have one of the best forward packs going around and their spine is more experienced than some others. I think it’s time to drop Ash Taylor and see if he can find some form and confidence. As Captain, passing off the kicking duties to someone who hasn’t kicked a goal this year for such an important kick shows a massive lack in confidence.

State of Origin time. Go Queensland!!!

Let’s preview five for this week and don’t forget to cote or leave a comment below.

Elliott Whitehead

Whitehead has only missed one workhorse this season and is averaging 44 involvements a game. One of the most consistent back rowers in the comp he also adds an attacking element to his game with a try and four try assists so far this season.

Jordan McLean

McLean scored his first ever double workhorse last week after playing close to 70 minutes for the injury depleted Cowboys. While I don’t think he will get a double this week, he has only missed twice this season. Has almost scored as much this season as he has in the last four.

Cameron Smith

A week off will do wonder for Smith. While they are coming up against another team that’s had a break, if Smith can get his running game going then the Storm could be in for a huge game.

Jack Wighton

The ever improving Wighton has been a big surprise this season. He will get a lot out of Origin camp and will come out firing against the Tigers on Friday night. After his pass on Wednesday night he’ll have a point to prove! He could he set for a huge game.

Anthony Milford

Milford had a week off and will be disappointed not to get a call up to Origin. He comes up against a dejected Titans side who might have things get worse before they get better.
