Captains Call: Round 2

Welcome to the second week of Captains Call.

With the first round done and dusted there were a few surprises in regard to teams lists and results.

Probably the biggest surprise in terms of NRLCEO value is Matt Eisenhuth.

He only missed two workhorse tries last year which would have made him a fairly high draft prospect to the point that one coach in our private comp used him as one of his keepers. Can’t even make the bench for the Tigers and with a win last week it wouldn’t surprise me if it stays that way for this week.

In terms of results, Parramatta beating Panthers was probably the biggest surprise. Many have tipped Panthers to finish at least top four, with performances like that they won’t make the eight. In saying that its only been one game and we know it takes time for teams to find their groove, just like your NRLCEO team. Don’t go blowing a thousand terminations, it can take a few weeks for your team to get going, just like some NRL teams.

Let’s review the five from last week. Josh Addo-Carr and Shaun Johnson both failed to register a point. Addo- Carr was well held on the wing and Johnson was in a grind of a game. Both players are too good to score zero points two weeks in a row.

Ryan James scored a work horse with 41 involvements. Don’t stress too much about is involvements, it was a very wet game with plenty of errors which made it very stop start.

Jake Trbojevic made an easy work horse with 56 involvements. He was close in the involvement stake to make a double, but his meters were well down. Good start to the year though.

Best of the week was Damien Cook, surprise, surprise. Registered a Double Workhorse by three meters and laid on a nice try assist for Sam Burgess. Will be the man to beat, again.

Let’s preview five more this week. Don’t forget to vote or leave a comment below.

Matt Gillett

Registered an easy workhorse in round one playing as lock. Whether he stays lock or moves back to second row he is still very reliable on the work horse front. Just needs to make more meters to be a genuine double threat.

Cameron Murray

Murray made an easy work horse off only 60 minutes against the Roosters last week. While he may not get the 80, he probably needs to get a double, he looks a threat with ball in hand. He makes good meters and can play a bit of ball. Against a Dragons forward pack out to prove themselves, Murray will be right in the thick of it.

Aiden Tolman

Tolman had 50 involvements in 52 minutes last week. He will be called upon this season to make many more tackles with the real prospect of scoring doubles most weeks if he can get just over 60 minutes. The way the Eels played, he will be asked to make many more this week.

Latrell Mitchell

Arguably the best centre in the comp had a relatively quiet Friday night. Against Manly that won’t be the case. Mitchell is set for a monster game and this one could be it.

David Fusitua

Although Fusitua didn’t score a try, he did lay on two try assists and a line break. He will have the height advantage again against the Tigers wingers and with Greens pin point kicking it could be an aerial assault.
