Captains Call: Round 3

Welcome to week three of Captains Call.

Its been a funny start to the year in terms or results but there’s also been some that we have expected. The Bulldogs seem to be in for a long year unless something drastic changes. They have leaked points against teams that aren’t up there in terms of ability and I don’t want to see what happens when they come up against the likes of the Storm, Roosters or Rabbits.

I had the pleasure of being at the Raiders v Storm game and while my team (the Raiders) went down I couldn’t help but applaud the Storm. They were clinical and rarely missed a beat. They again will be a benchmark team and any team that can beat them or compete for most part should take a lot away from it.

Let’s review the five from last week and just like my team in patches, some of my picks were very ordinary as well.

Gillett – 0

Murray – 9

Tolman – 4

Mitchell – 1

Fusitua – 0

Matt Gillett hit that magical 39 involvements and in that only made seven runs for the game, in comparison Taumalolo played for not even half the game and mage seven. Once he becomes match fit his output will go up.

Another player to get zero was David Fusitua. In a match that was dominated by the Tigers, Fusitua never had the opportunity.

Latrell Mitchell didn’t fare much better. His move to the number six didn’t help his out put and only managed a forty twenty.

Aiden Tolman was his usual self, making an easy workhorse in a relatively high scoring game.

The best of the week was Cameron Murray. Two weeks in a row he has scored a work horse and a try. Once his fitness gets betters expect bigger minutes at lock when he then might be able to push for those doubles.

Let’s preview five for this week and don’t forget to vote of leave a message below.

Sam Burgess

His move to the edge has proven a very fruitful. He is the equal best scoring players so far this year. He seems to be moved into the middle once Lowe comes on which allows him to get those involvements up and with a new look, controlled aggression, he is starting to look like that player he was in 2014.

Robbie Farah

Farah has turned back the clock and put some masterful performances in. As well as Burgess, he is also the equal highest scorer this year and against the Bulldogs this week he could be in for another basket full of points.

Daniel Alvaro

You know what you’re going to get week in, week out with Alvaro. He is a consistent work horse scorer but that about all you will get from him. He is almost a guarantee each week.

Corey Oates

Oates has four tries from two games with no signs of slowing. The good thing about Oates is not only is he a great finisher but he has the ability to turn something out of nothing which makes him one of the most dangerous wingers in the comp. The Dragons will need to be on notice!

Campbell Graham

Graham has scored a try each games this season and against some reasonable opposition. Against the Titans I feel he may be in line to score a bag full. Braiden Burns has shown quality at centre and I expect him to put Graham over for at least two tries.
