Captains Call: Round 5

Welcome to week five of Captains Call.

What a great round of footy that one was. Three golden points and one with a kick on the siren to take it to golden point.

One of those three teams to win was Panthers, but for me they are very lucky to have two wins this season. Tigers were the better team for 78 minutes of that game but just couldn’t convert their chances. This may be a sign that both teams aren’t as good as many people think, Tigers can’t close out a game and Penrith can’t compete for the majority of the game. I was really impressed with the Bulldogs though, the young team showed more fight than most against a good Storm team, maybe Darius Boyd needs to take a leaf out of their book.

On the injury front there were some big injuries to key players, most notably Tom Trbojevic. A 10-week stint on the side line will put a dent in any NRL team, let alone a NRLCEO team.

Let’s review the five from last week.

Granville – 4

Smith – 7

Graham – 4

Reynolds – 4

Munster – 5

Jake Granville did enough to get his workhorse and James Graham was the closest he’d been to a double since Round 8, 2017. Adam Reynolds picked up a try assist, line break and line break assist in a low scoring game. All three of these players got a solid four points this week.

Cameron Munster crossed the line like I said he would and picked up a line break along the way for his five points.

Best of the week was Cameron Smith. Smith picked up a workhorse and added a try assist and line break assist to get his tally to seven.

Let’s preview five more this week and don’t forget to vote or leave a comment below.

John Bateman

The Pommy international came to Australia as a bit of an unknown for some but he has hit the ground running and is an early contender for buy of the year. Averaging 51 involvements a game is very handy for any forward in you NRLCEO team and it won’t be long until he starts crossing that line.

Paul Vaughan

Vaughan picked up his first ever double work horse on the weekend with 62 involvements and a whopping 225 meters run. With Korbin Sims out long term, expect Vaughan’s minutes to stay high.

David Klemmer

The marquee buy for Knights has lived up to expectations so far. Averaging 34 tackles and 20 hit ups a game, he would also be very handy in a meter eater comp averaging 170 meters per game. Four from four in the workhorse stakes makes him a very solid option.

Blake Ferguson

Has been one of the best wingers so far this season. If you are in a meter eater comp you would captain him every week as he averages over 200 meters a game. He also has three tries and three-line break assists to his name this year.

Kalyn Ponga

Looked good in his move to fullback and had two try assist and two-line break assists in his return. He will only get better as he finds his groove again with a huge game not far away.
