Captains Call: Round 8

Welcome to week eight of Captains Call.

Apologies for my absence last week, was on a well earned break down by the sea. Still got to watch plenty of NRL while I was down there and while it’s a little bit off topic, I’m going to give a brief opinion on each team and how they will go for the season.

  1. Roosters – Again very strong, hard to look past for premiers
  2. Storm – Doing enough to win, just. Will be there abouts but won’t make GF
  3. Rabbitohs – Aren’t playing great but are still winning. Once it clicks, look out
  4. Raiders – Can finish top four with the squad but needs to win those games expected like last week
  5. Eels – Playing well enough to make finals, need to be more consistent
  6. Manly – Big Surprise so far, can they keep this intensity up, I’m leaning towards no
  7. Tigers – Again, need to win those games expected. See them missing the eight, just
  8. Dragons – Have the squad to be right up there but have been super inconsistent. Change that and they are finals bound
  9. Sharks – If they can’t solve their injury problems then kiss finals goodbye
  10. Broncos – Are they back? No. A win against a depleted Sharks isn’t enough. Though squad good enough for finals, will make it, just
  11. Knights – Have lost something, not sure what it is. A good win against the Eels might see them spark. Undecided if they make the eight
  12. Warriors – Played well last week but even if they manage to get Nikorima by next round, it won’t be enough. Bottom four
  13. Titans – Without Ryan James and not enough fire power out wide, they could be on the way to a spoon
  14. Panthers – Not looking good, will they click? Yes, eventually. In time to make finals? I wouldn’t bet on it
  15. Cowboys – If Taumalolo can’t get them to spark when he is back then no finals for Cowboys
  16. Bulldogs – SPOON! Sorry Doggies fans, not going to be a great year

Let’s preview five for this week, don’t forget to vote or leave a comment below.

Reed Mahoney

An 80-minute hooker is almost always a safe bet these days. Has missed one workhorse but did get a double two weeks ago.  Can’t see him missing anytime soon.

Blake Lawrie

Has been a real surprise packet, has a workhorse each week, even when he started off the bench. Has really high stats per minute so doesn’t need a lot to make it.

Kyle Feldt

All the talk has been about Taumalolo coming back this week but to have a quality finisher in Feldt come back too will help. Against Titans he could bag a double.

Danny Levi

Had one if his best games of the season last week. Two tried and a line break to go with a WH. Could be the same against the Warriors this week.

Cameron Smith

Smith has a double workhorse in his last two starts. If the Sharks aren’t on their game, he could make another 100 meters and push his way to a third straight double. Unheard of at 35 years old.
