Makers and Breakers

It’s a Sunday afternoon and your team is down by five, your opponent has played all 17 and you have one remaining player who averages four points per game.

Are you on the edge of your seat or already hitting the group chat boasting about your heroics?

The answer to this no doubt will depend on who is playing last.

A consistent performer, a spud simply filling a vacancy or what I refer to as a maker or breaker.

I am sure we all have them, the player that has you on the edge of your seat (and possibly continuously refreshing the Champion Data Match Centre) who is as inconsistent as a Sydney train timetable and will give you a win from nowhere one week with double figures then go missing and post duck eggs the next three rounds when you need them.

In today’s analysis we look at the makers and breakers of the 2019 season so far. To identity these polarising figures we compare a players average score this year against their performance in each of the last seven rounds. By summing the absolute value of the variation from average for each round we determine the top 10 players who can make a game for you or break any hope you had of winning.

  • Note only those players who have played all seven games have been included (Thank me later Turbo!)

To take this a step further we look at the true breakers, those who have played all seven games with an average over 3 per game however have a tendency to post zero’s when you need them:

Do you have a breaker or a maker in your team? Did you jump off the edge of your seat in cheers or tears?
