Getting to know Adam Quinlan

Adam Quinlan

Today is an NRLCEO first.  Our first ever player interview has been conducted as our man Jackson Russell was able to sit down with Dragons young gun Adam Quinlan.

Today I sat down with St George Illawarra Dragons player Adam Quinlan. Quinlan is tackling the big role of replacing the injured Josh Dugan, one of NRL’s most talked about and controversial players. While most League fans know everything there is to know about Dugan, Quinlan flies under the radar.  Quinlan’s evident gratefulness to be part of the game and the club is refreshing, when speaking to him it was clear that Quinlan has his head screwed on and in the game.

First off Adam, how was the pre-season with a lot of new faces?
I really enjoyed the pre-season. It was a hard one, but with so many new faces at the club it brought a new energy so there is a lot of excitement around the club at the moment.

How is the team looking coming into the first few weeks of the season?
Good, obviously we were very disappointed after the Charity Shield but we took a few positives away for it. We had some great sessions over the past two weeks and we’re confident we will start the season well.

The season couldn’t have started any better after a thumping of the Tigers first up in Round 1.

After so many signings were made, were you worried about what your role with the club would be this season?
Yes I was because a lot of good players have come to the club. I tried not to think about it and concentrate on having a good pre-season. To be honest I didn’t think I would get a run but I’ve got an opportunity and I’m looking to make the most of it.

In the games we’ve seen you play you’ve played a few different positions. What is your favourite position to play?
I’m happy to play anywhere in the 17 but Fullback would be my preferred spot. I get the chance to do my own thing and it’s a lot more attacking minded than playing in the halves.

Before your contract with the Dragons what were you doing?
I was working for my old man as a Plumber, but in 2012 I got picked in the under 20’s squad. Half way through the year I wasn’t really getting a run, I was still working with Dad in Culburra, I was actually going to leave the Dragons but after a few injuries I got a run. I played a utility role for a few weeks then an injury to the fullback got me a go there and from that I played well and ended up getting in the first grade squad for 2013.

Player Profile:
Date of Birth: 20/11/1992
Hometown: Culburra Beach
Who are your sporting idols? Darren Lockyer and Roger Federer
Who is the best player you have played with or against? Greg Inglis
Who are your best mates in the team? San Williams, Jack De Belin and Mitch Rein
Who is your most annoying teammate? Dan Hunt is a pest and after living with Craig Garvey I would say him too
Anything most people don’t know about you? Yeah I don’t like water. I don’t like the taste, so I drink Powerade during matches. Also I can’t handle soft drinks either. The bubbles burn my tongue.
