Captains Call: Round 17

Welcome to week 17 of Captains Call.

The importance of a good goal kicker is high in most NRLCEO coaches lists at the start of every draft. To get a good goal kicker from a team that scores plenty of tries goes a long way to making finals for your league. The same can be said for the NRL teams as well. The Sharks have made only made three conversions out of twelve in the last three weeks. If they had of kicked two more goals in each of those matches to make it a 75% success rate, they would be currently sitting fourth and three games clear of eighth. Instead they are now fighting it out in eighth spot.

Let’s review the five from last week.

Alex Twal – 4

Angus Crichton – 4

Blake Lawrie – 4

Daniel Tupou – 4

Ryan Papenhuyzen – 0

Papenhuyzen was the biggest disappointment. Thinking he would start at fullback and Hughes to the halves, Papenhuyzen would have been in for a big game, wasn’t to be.

Twal, Crichton and Lawrie all made a workhorse with Lawrie only three involvements off a double. Tupou crossed for one try as well.

Let’s preview five for this week and don’t forget to vote or leave a comment below.

Andrew Fifita

After missing the Tonga game and the last two games for the Sharks, Fifita will be looking to make up for lost time. Fifita has only missed one workhorse due to injury and has a knack of crossing the line when the team needs him.

John Bateman

Bateman will still be stinging after their loss to the Eels. He is such a competitor that a big game will be around the corner.

Matt Eisenhuth

Couldn’t get a run at the start of the year, Eisenhuth is now a mainstay at lock. Racking up some impressive numbers, he was one involvement off a double workhorse last week.

James Tedesco

Tedesco has been in some rare form for NSW and will look to bring that back to the Roosters. If the Cowboys aren’t careful, Tedesco will tear them up the middle.

Ken Maumalo

Maumalo is now equal leading try scorer in the NRL with 12. It’s by far his best season to date. It’s no coincidence that since Kata moved away from Maumalos side of the ground, he has scored a lot more.
